R2: Prologue    Niobe couldn't say that she was angry she had lost the race.

  In fact sitting in lounge of the check point was a lot better than running around in the desert had been. Still, something ate at Niobe. She flicked her tail and scanned the faces of the other competitors milling around the check point.

  Her eyes settled on the griffin that was leaning against the window on her own bench. Something about Iris was off but Niobe couldn't figure out what it was. Iris never talked to any of the other competitors or ate in the cafeteria with anybody else.

R1: Part Four End  I hit the side of the cliff and tumbled the rest of way down.

  Niobe's shock hadn't been powerful enough to knock me out but it still had frozen all the muscles in my body. If I was zapped like that again it would probably kill me.

  I was slammed into the soft sand. The soft surface may have broken my fall but the impact sent another wave of pain through me.

   My body refused to respond to any command.

  I heard the echo of rocks crumbling down the side and Niobe slid over next to me. It seemed like her vision had cleared and she had found a safer way down. Lucky her.

R1: Part Three  "Iris, why do you refuse to fight?"

  Darkness was all that met my eyes.

  I looked around for the voice but my eyes refused to adjust to the lack of light. I shook my head. Fear was steadily rising in my chest. What had Niobe done to me? What was I blind?

  I looked around just as tiny forms flickered into existence. I tried to focus my gaze in so I could see what they were, but they were too far away.

  I walked towards the shapes that glistened in the darkness like a lamp in a cave.  It was my only beacon in this dark place, and the only option I had.

So off to round two! I'm up against

. I can't wait to start my round and hope not to disappoint.

I'm going in a little bit different direction this round. Starting with the cover which is more symbolic then my last few.
